Peter U. Maurer    Part I: Islam in Germany

Peter Maurer has lived in South Africa from 1986 to 2012 and has been taking Photodocumentaries for as long as he can remember. He grew up in East Germany behind the iron courtain, where he was sentenced for eleven months in prison for expressing anti-government sentiment. After emigrating to the west in 1978, he became a free-lance writer and photojournalist. He did an overland journey from West Germany to  Cape Town (1985), where he fell in love with South Africa and his wife-to-be. Today he lives with his family in Berlin / Germany, working for several newspapers an institutions.  Peter passed away in March 2020 after loosing his struggle against cancer.
